Project Runway 5 Season Finale

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

I’ve been religiously downloading every episode of Project Runway season 5 ever since it came out, and now it’s down to the last episode: the Bryant Park runway show, where the last three designers will compete to be Project Runway’s top fashion designer.

I like Leanne’s collection, I think it’s very cohesive, and her clothes are always very architectural yet still has a sense of softness and fluidity.  She revealed during episode 13 that she was inspired by waves and water, hence she chose only two colors for her clothes: aqua and cream. Her collection evokes sophistication and modernity. I think she has a very strong chance of winning this season because she has consistently impressed the judges with her works, and let’s face it, she’s clearly the crowd favorite.

However, I LOVE Kenley’s work. I ‘ve always loved her daring use of colors, print, and fabric throughout the show and now, in her final collection. If you’ve been watching the show this season, you’ll know that she heavily draws inspiration from the 40’s and 50’s era. She actually looks like a pinup girl herself with the way she dresses and styles her hair. She’s quite unpopular with her fellow designers, especially during the last few episodes, because of her smug and rude attitude to everyone including the judges. She snaps at Heidi and Michael after being criticized and becomes very defensive. But even if the show portrayed Kenley like this, for some reason I wasn’t turned off, unlike Wendy Pepper from the first season whom the viewers love to hate.

Kenley has a very strong personality and point of view, and she translates that to her clothes. Her collection’s theme is “Alice in Wonderland”. I think despite the use of vintage silhouettes it’s still very whimsical and fun.  Although Leanne is the crowd favorite I’m rooting for Kenley to win.

The biggest disappointment this season would have to be Korto. Her collection is a tragic downfall from her impressive works in the show (some of which have won for various challenges) . She said her inspiration is “Africa” but aside from the big and heavy beaded necklaces, there really is nothing grandstanding about her work. She used blah colors and familiar “been there, done that” silhouettes. I particularly hate the gold-brownish wedding gown with the neverending pleats in the final challenge (which I failed to include in the picture).

I’m still waiting for the final episode to see who’ll win the fifth season. I’ve only looked at the BravoTV site to view the collection but the winner is yet to be announced. I haven’t googled it either (no spoilers please). I can’t wait! I hope Kenley wins. :)

Steve Madden shoes

I’ve been stalking http://www.stevemadden.com/ for quite sometime now, and have amassed a folder full of pictures of shoes that I want to have here in my closet. Some of them are ridiculously expensive for a lowly peasant such as myself, but for the love of shoes, I can sacrifice anything–including a few paychecks. :p

So the million-dollar question is, are there Steve Madden stores here in the Philippines? :-/ I’m particularly in love with the open-toe boots and the gladiator heels, but not very fond of ordering things online (shipping fees will only cause more damage in my credit card bill :p).

inside my bag

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about bloggers revealing the contents of their bags, and I kind of liked the idea so let me share with you what’s inside mine. I’m a packrat, I like knowing I have easy access to things even if I don’t get to use them. Which is silly I know, because I’m lugging around this enormous bag filled with unnecessary junk, when I can just as easily carry a small purse.

bag1

I got this bag from a bazaar in Rockwell last year. It’s a doctor bag in patent with a nice quilted design. It’s spacious enough to accommodate all my stuff that I have to bring everyday.

stuff1

The most important thing in my bag would have to be my ipod. I’d soon die a tragic death if I lost it or forgot to bring it. It has more than 17 gig of music and is packed with a lot of Simpsons and Futurama episodes. It helps keep my sanity during those boring moments of riding the MRT after work or eating on my own before I go home. The notebook is by Pepper Roxas (www.studioroxas.com), a gift from Mark which he bought during the artists’ fair in Cubao-X last December. I doodled and added my name on the cover :) My dad gave me this tear gas spray as soon as the news about the serial killer roaming around the city broke out, he got a little paranoid and scared about it. I’m more scared about how I would go and use it on my attacker. Hehe. And my two primitive phones, which don’t really have much use other than SMS and calls.

faceshop eyelash curler, maybelline lipgloss, l'oreal eyegel, vmv lip and cheek tint, maybelline foundation, maybelline face powder, faceshop eyeshadow in sweet pink, faceshop mascara, faceshop eyeliner, bodyshop strawberry body butter, vitress hair serum

These are basically the contents of my “kikay kit”. I don’t use much of the stuff honestly, I don’t even know why I bought a foundation because I don’t really wear makeup, save for a tinge of lipgloss, cheek tint, and the occasional mascara. I guess I just like knowing that I have these stuff with me, just in case. But anyway, my favorite in this group is the strawberry body butter from Bodyshop because of its yummy smell.

Additional contents are the vitamins I take daily and my multi-purpose MNG wallet, another gift from Mark hehe :)

And… that’s it! I guess the rule is I’m supposed to tag someone else with this meme, so I’m tagging anyone who’s bored enough to do it.

Dress + Boots + Stockings

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

is one fashion combination that I love but do not currently have the guts to wear. For one thing, summer is inching closer in our beautiful tropical country, and I just don’t see myself sweating like a pig while travelling to work/home.

boots

I currently have three boots in my possession right now, a black ankle one, dark brown pirate boots, and tan cowboy boots. But I adore what the girl in the photo above is wearing! It’s very wearable, comfortable, casual yet still hip. I also love that the boots are cut wide on the calves. If you’re sick of the usual skinny jeans, heels and shirt combo, then this is the way to go. :)

I’ve always wanted this pair, ankle v-cut boots.

On my wishlist right now:

boots 1

dark brown calf leather boots

boots 2

fold over canvas boots from Urbanoutfitters.com
